Louisiana Catfish Festival – In 1980, the Legislature passed a resolution naming Des Allemands the Catfish Capital of the Universe. Each year, locals come together to continue honoring this community staple at the Louisiana Catfish Festival. (Every June)
Alligator Festival – Residents of the region love their gators and this annual festival is a great way to get acquainted with some local favorites. Carnival rides, delicious Louisiana food and musicians from the area can be enjoyed for anyone choosing to attend. (Every September)
Andouille Festival – Andouille is a cuisine staple as it is used in many of the most traditional dishes of the region. This event puts andouille center stage and festival goers can enjoy some of the best bites the area has to offer. (Every October)
Bonfires on the Levee – One of the oldest holiday traditions in the U.S. takes place in the River Parishes. Every Christmas Eve, over 100 wooden bonfires line the Mississippi River levees in St. James and St. John the Baptist Parishes. Thousands of visitors gather as the bonfires are ignited simultaneously to welcome the arrival of “Papa Noel”, known as Santa Claus everywhere else. (Every December)
3rd of July – Independence Day is celebrated each year with fireworks shot from the river levee or river barges throughout the region with community gatherings and musical performances. See how the locals say Happy Birthday to America by venturing out here for the festivities. (Every July)
